  • Week 4

Its been warmer this week, but also drizzly. No hanging the washing out, consequently the house looks like a laundry. I shall have to make underwear bunting again and hang it all around my room.
Its been a busy old week. Four assignments due in, so plenty of library time.
Fenced against northumbria, and I actually won a match! We fended them off quite well, winning in sabre. Overall a loss 117-128, but respectable. Missed a whole day though, so I had stuff to catch up on.
    I baked bread today! Yum.

  • And so it begins...

Term has properly started, lectures have been attended, assignments set, seminars found and lecturers have got annoying. The cold, which began at some point this week, has not really stopped. Its been hat, scarf and glove weather, wearing you out and making you crave stew.
Its been a good week, getting back into the routine of working. I've even been to the library. There's something that just makes you want to work when you're sat in the library.
We fenced Leeds at home. In the freezing tent, which made it a bit dangerous. We lost, but did really well in sabre and epee, losing by a much narower margin than foil (45-10 to them, or something like that) With our best foilist out with a broken rib, it was unlikely we would have done well on foil.
Lectures have been mixed, but a 4:15 and a 5:15 on friday evening is cruel.
Seminars have been good, even the one in the norwegian studies institute, why we have one of them I don't know. Why the maths department have been made to use it, i also don't know. Oh well.
I've also been knitting, yay for wool shops!

  • Week 1 Autumn term

Otherwise known as 'welcome week' the less alcoholic sounding freshers week. The week has passed in a whirl of activity with the cu. The students union have been incredibly good to us this year, letting us have a very obvious presence on campus. With our yellow 'Lost?' shirts and gazebos we've been showing people round, and generally being nice. Hopefully giving the freshers a positive first impression of the cu. I myself have been on campus showing people round and under the gazebos being friendly. We stewarded a campus event on tuesday. Stewarding is sitting by a fire exit and being sober enough to open the fire exit in case of fire. Highly boring, but an interesting exercise in people watching. I found myself getting rather dissaproving of the way people meet other people these days, theres not much talking involved, no courting, no barriers. The only dancing people know is dirty dancing. Its sad really. All those fresher couples who barely know each other getting intimate on the dancefloor. I've decided I don't like it, and I'm glad I didn't meet my boyfriend like that. I've also decided I'm an old woman.
Rant over. We did plenty of baking for college C.U.s to hand out to freshers. We're currently baking a pile of puddings for the grub crawl tonight.
Looking forward to returning to normality and having a routine, as much as thats possible with student life.

  • York

Its nice to be back, there really is no city centre quite like it in all the world. Just wonderful, with the minster high above everything else and all the windy streets and traditional shop fronts. Not to mention the pubs.
Life is good, moving in was a bit difficult, due to the sheer amount of stuff to move into my tiny room. We are enjoying ourselves, went to church yesterday, then out for food, church in the evening, then out to the pub, then back for cranium. Its like a giant sleepover with your own bedrooms.
    Visitors welcome! Airbeds provided.
    Love you all.

  • Autumn is here

Its that chill in the wind, making it just a little sharp. The occasional golden tree, framed by its green neighbours. Watching the leaves drift down after a gust of wind. Pumpkins and apples, blackberry crumble and custard and lovely slow cooked stew. Its also time to pile all my stuff up in my room ready for my move up to York at the end of the week. I really should start to write my lists. There are all sorts of things to decide, do I really need to take my teapot up? Are we really going to buy a hamster and call it wippet? Is it all going to fit in my new room? Having spent a lovely couple of days camping in Brecon, on a wonderful little campsite, with Greg (and before you say anything, its perfectly possible to stay together in a tent and not sleep with each other, we do have self control) enjoying the autumn feel to the air and the smell of the campfire. Unfortunately due to both a nasty cold and the fact I pulled my leg on a short 4 mile walk just after we arrived, we didn't get much walking done. We did however spend a quiet, yet very cold, afternoon in Brecon cathedral.
I've been sharing in the freshers' excitement at finding out where they are living, haven't seen who has my old room yet. I remember how it felt and its a bit strange to think that rather dark and uninviting building soon became a warm and friendly home, but I'm enjoying helping out. I should be there in my red 'lost?' shirt on moving in day, ooh its all so exciting!
